First Look: Richmonde Hotel Iloilo


Richmonde Hotel Iloilo is now open to serve the Ilonggos! The first hotel to open at Megaworld's PhP35-B Iloilo Business Park, Richmonde is just in a soft-opening "mode" as a bigger and grander opening is scheduled later this year.

Richmonde Hotel Iloilo occupies eight floors of the 12-storey Richmonde Tower. The luxury hotel will have a fully opened capacity of 151 guest rooms (only two? floors are opened as of now).  It will house a restaurant and deli, function rooms, business center, fitness gym as well as a lap pool with its own pool bar.
Quoting from a previous press release from Megaworld, "Megaworld has commissioned Gettys to conceptualize and design the hotel’s facade, grand lobby and interiors, restaurant and guest rooms.

Serving as the hotel's main food outlet is The Granary. Located at the hotel's lobby, the all-day outlet entices with its simple yet elegant interiors.

And for its soft opening. Richmonde Hotel Iloilo offers special introductory rates, available for a limited number of rooms only:
  • Deluxe Room (Single occupancy) at PhP 3,500 nett
  • Deluxe Room (Double occupancy) at PhP 3,800 nett
The room rate is inclusive of breakfast at Richmonde's all-day dining restaurant, The Granary and Wi-Fi access.

Iloilo Ancestral Houses: The Lizares Mansion in Jaro

One the most elegant reminders of Iloilo's rich and noble past is the imposing Lizares Mansion in Tabuc Suba, Jaro. Situated in an almost 2-hectare lot, this mansion was built in 1937 by Don Emiliano Lizares for his wife Conchita Gamboa. The mansion has three floors, a basement and an attic. It has a winding wooden staircase and big bedrooms with floor and doors made of hardwood. It has 59 doors which indicate the intricacy of its layout.  When World War II broke out, the family left for a safe hiding place in Pototan, Iloilo. The mansion was then used as headquarters of the Japanese army. It was believed that the basement became a dumping ground for tortured Filipinos. After the war, the family went back to live in the mansion, but life was never the same.
