Iloilo City readies for Paraw Regatta 2011

ILOILO City – The city government is getting ready for the Paraw Regatta slated from February 13 to 20. The sailing event should be fully supported to sustain the economic and tourism activity in the region, said Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog. Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation Inc. (IPRFI) chairman Manuel Villa Jr. said the 39th edition of the regatta will have the theme "Philippine Seafaring Tradition Goes Worldwide." Paraw Regatta is the largest and oldest sailing event in Asia with sailing enthusiasts from Europe, Australia and United States visiting Iloilo to witness the sailing skills of Ilonggo sailors, Villa added. Native fishermen join the 30-kilometer race using the traditional paraw or native outriggers. They race through the Iloilo Strait between the islands of Guimaras and Panay. Other side events of the regatta are rowing and paddling competition, Governor's Cup fishing competition, beach football and volleyball. News article courtesy of Panay News | Photos Cour

Dinagyang 2011 Quick Guide - Winners, schedules, hotels, activities and more!

Congratulations to the Dinagyang 2011 Festival winners. The crowd favorite Tribu Pan-ay of Fort San Pedro National HIgh School really deserved to win for giving a superb performance garnered a standing ovation in almost every judging area especially the main performance area - Freedom Grandstand . From the start of the festival - I was fortunate enough to watch it live and on television simultaneously. What made Tribu Pan-ay wrestle the crown away from the defending Dinagyang (and Aliwan Festival ) champion, Tribu Paghidaet, is the flawless, energetic, different concept, excellent choreography among the tribes. In short, it was a very superb over all performance. So aside from representing Iloilo City in the upcoming Aliwan Festival (I'm sure it'll land in the Top 3, as usual, for ever since the start of the Aliwan Dinagyag had always been in those spots.), Tribu Pan-ay will be perform ing in New York City, USA in the Philippine Independence day Festivities
