TINUKIB is a Hiligay-non word rooting from the word tukib meaning "to discover", thus tinukib means "discovered or a discovery". It was indeed an afternoon of discovery as I found myself at the Tinukib Pasalubong Center located at the ground floor of the Taytay Sang Kauswagan Inc. (TSKI) building in Brgy. Mali-ao, Pavia, Iloilo.
Conveniently located along the highway between Iloilo City and the Iloilo International Airport, tourists as well as locals will surely marvel at the variety of creations by artistic and innovative Ilonggo micro enptrepreneurs as well different goodies gathered from around the region.
Like this galore of products from the nearby island of Guimaras. Take your pick from mango bars, mango barquillos, mango otap, mango preserves, concentrated mango juice and mango ketchup - all having that Guimaras fruitty signature. But don't fret if you're not into mangoes as they also have cashew nuts, pickels, pineapples and more.
Of course even if Biscocho Haus is nearby, Tinukib also hve Ilonggo biscuits and delicacies like Deocampo barquillos and mamon tostado, Wewin's biscocho, baƱadas nd one of my fave pasalubong items - Mama's Kitchen. They have a complete selection that time from their signature mango chewies to tsokolate crisps, peanut cunrchies, pinipig crunchies, cashew crunchies and a whole lot more.
And quite surprisingly they have frozen products like sausages and chorizo made by Ilonggo foodiepreneurs.
Enough of food already and we go to the health and beauty display where in native teas like ampalaya, moringa and ginger are tehre to appease the health conscious. A lot of home-made skin care products are also on display.
Tinukib Pasalubong Center was conceived through a contemporary innovation to reintroduce and provide domestic and foreign tourists a genuine glimpse of authentic and quality Ilonggo products, craftsmanship, and cultural promotion that defines everything about the Ilonggos - with a heart.
The core of of Tinukib is more than just rediscovering the rich culture of the Ilonggos and what it has to offer globally, but also the worthier cause of helping communities ad making a difference to the dynamic social enterprises it supports. Each Tinukib product is made with a story from the heart. It depicts the journey of each product from the home of its producer to the showromm, giving a glimpse of the very heart of the Ilonggo community.
