As the rest of the country progresses to more lenient measures under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) policies, the fight against the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic continues among medical frontliners who are leading on-ground.
Throughout the duration of the pandemic, Globe has continuously extended its support to these hard working men and women from the medical field by providing financial and in-kind assistance in the form of PPEs, prepaid load , WiFi connectivity, and mobile devices. The telco giant also engages its customers to participate in its various advocacies for the benefit of the frontliners and different hospitals all over the country.
Earlier this June, Globe At Home launched an engagement program to encourage its postpaid customers to settle their bills within June 15 to July 31, 2020 via the Globe At Home App, Globe One, or Globe.com payment sites while staying safe and connected at home. For every bill payment made within this period through the said channels, a PhP 25 donation was made by Globe, on behalf of its customers, to support the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in its fight against COVID-19.
Together with its loyal customers, Globe At Home was able to raise a total of PhP 1,782,000 which will be used by WVMC for the acquisition of medical equipment and supplies that are necessary to ensure the hospital’s safe and seamless operations. These include two high flow oxygen therapy machines, 230 pcs of high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), 80 tube and chamber kits with single heated circuit, and an elbow and MR290 chamber.
“The fight against COVID-19 is far from over and we are one with our frontliners in this battle. By providing them with protective equipment and medical supplies, we hope to help in keeping them safe and healthy,” said Darius Delgado, VP and Head of Broadband Business for Globe.
WVMC is a state-owned tertiary health care facility in Mandurriao, Iloilo City. It was selected as the main beneficiary of the program as part of Globe's continuous efforts to reach and support hospitals within Visayas and Mindanao. WVMC is a DOH-accredited hospital catering to COVID-19 patients in Western Visayas and also houses the Sub-National Laboratory, one of the accredited COVID-19 testing centers in the region. As of August 31, 2020, the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development recorded a total of 2,301 active cases in the region.
“In behalf of the Western Visayas Medical Center, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the timely assistance extended to us by Globe. This will be used for the needs of patients with respiratory problems especially with the recent rise of COVID-19 cases in the region. This will greatly help us in this battle. Again, thank you very much for the unending support,” said WVMC Chief Dr. Joseph Dean Nicolo.
Last March 5, Globe donated Php P5M worth of surgical masks to the Philippine Red Cross. The telco was also able to raise over P36M of funds through the support of its Globe Rewards customers, and P10M from its own employees to support various medical institutions across the country. Further, Globe has provided free unlimited internet connection via its GoWiFi services since March 13 at 68 public and private hospitals across the country. Mobile and broadband customers are also encouraged to stay updated on the developments on COVID-19 with access to the official sites of the Department of Health, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, and Philippine Information Agency, free of data charges.
