Cine Europa 2019 in Iloilo : Friendship and humanity captured on the big screen

Cine Europa, with its 22-year long screening history is among the oldest and most watched foreign film festivals in the Philippines.

And this 2019, the Europian Union(EU) brings 12 kaleidoscopic films to the City of Love as for its Iloilo City leg.

On Oct. 9, 2019, SM City Iloilo will host the film festival launch at SM Cinema 8 together with an EU delegation to grace the event.

A screening of the Dutch film, De Marathon, concludes the opening celebration. This sport-drama-comedy film is about four very out-of-shape men working at a car shop and a mararhon. They start to train for the sport after finding out that they have a debt with the tax service and with a marathon win, they can pay their debts!

Cine Europa 2019 features films from Europe, particularly Belgium, The Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Norway, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

Each cinematic masterpiece tackles different aspects of life: love, friendship, faith, triumph, courage and humanity.

These movies selected by the EU embassies and cultural institutes in Manila reflect the bloc's "growing cultural relationship with the Philippines because of our shared values", according to EU Delegation ChargƩ d'Affaires Thomas Wiersing.

This is the second time the EU included SM City Iloilo as its venue, following last year’s successful screenings.

The screening, which runa until October 12, 2019, will be shown free of charge on a first come first serve basis.

The film fest will also be screened at the Cinematheque Centre Iloilo until the 13th.
