Festive Walk Iloilo, NCCA unveil murals by Ilonggo artists for National Arts Month

Festive Walk Iloilo together with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) unveiled a mural project featuring the works of Ilonggo artists in time for the National Arts Month Celebration this February.

“Walk of Art: NCCA Mural Unveiling at Festive Walk Iloilo” was held on Sunday, February 27. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by NCCA Head for Subcommission on Cultural Dissemination Vicente C. Handa, PhD; Lead Artist Mia Reyes; Megaworld Corporation Vice President of Sales and Marketing Jennifer P. Fong; Festive Walk Iloilo General Manager Karmela Jesena; and Township Director Jogie Viceo.

The exhibition aims to support local artists and give them a platform to showcase their world-class talents. The mural display was led by multi-disciplinary artist Mia Reyes who has expertise in various mediums such as film, photography and visual arts. She was a faculty member at the University of San Agustin Fine Arts Department from 2014-2019 where she taught Photography and Filmmaking. Some of the grants and awards she garnered throughout the years include: First Place in Art in Atria Mural Competition; Second Place in Sineng Pambansa; and Cinekasimanwa NCCA Tuklas Sineng Award in 2016. Collaborating with Mia Reyes through design development to actual implementation of the murals was NCCA Program Consultant Edgar T. Fernandez.

Assisting artists include Abbey Salting, John Rey Parreno, Kearry Salting, Reyjan Lopez, Andrie Bonn Adora, Nadjah Herida, Bryan Caoyonan, Michael James Caserial, Eunice Florendo, and Goldberge Villanueva.

The team produced five colorful wall murals spanning 151.19 meters, showing unique Iloilo attractions and activities. Guests can witness the vibrant masterpieces at the 2/F Festive Walk Iloilo New Bridgelink Wing.

Festive Walk Iloilo is also giving away special prizes for mall-goers who will take part at the Walk of Art celebration. To join, guests must take photos at the murals and post it on their Facebook or Instagram accounts using the hashtags #SiningNgPagasa, #NAM2022, #FestiveWalkIloilo, and #FWMWalkOfArt, and tag Festive Walk Iloilo. The first 50 guests to post from February 27 to March 31, will get a chance to win premium art packages.
