ICARE Centers to rise in Iloilo City for quick, convenient public welfare response

Answering the Ilonggos need of bringing public welfare service faster, reliable and always readily available, the Iloilo City Government under Mayor Jerry P. Treñas has put up (and will be putting up) several ICARE centers across the city.

The Iloilo City Action and Response (ICARE) centers cater to calls for assistance such as trauma cases, vehicular accidents, medical emergencies, and even transport of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients.

Each center will be located in strategic locations across the city and will be connected to a main command for dispatch to the closest ICARE center or they can directly call to the nearest center using available hotlines.

ICARE Centers will  ensure the help coming from concerned offices are readily available. This includes City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), Iloilo City Emergency Responders (ICER), Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO), Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel.

At present, there are already two operating ICARE Centers in the city located at Brgy. Calumpang, Molo and Brgy. Balantang in Jaro.

“This is very strategic in the sense that it will cover barangays (which are in Jaro) and will be able to cater to the needs of our constituents along those areas,” said Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, in a virtual press conference during the inauguration of ICARE Balantang this month.

The mayor said similar center is being constructed in Brgy. Ungka, Jaro while similar facilities will be built in Brgy. Nabitasan in La Paz; Brgy. Tanza Esperanza in City Proper; Brgy. So-oc in Arevalo and at Megaworld's Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao.

ICARE Megaworld will host the Mandurriao police station and district health center, as the partnership with City Hall was already signed.

These satellite ICARE centers will eventually be connected to the command center that is about to be completed at the Gaisano Iloilo City Center (ICC) along Diversion Road in Mandurriao district and the emergency operations center at the motor pool.

This P38-million five-story state-of-the-art ICARE Command Center will be operational before the end of first quarter this year.

" We are very glad that the facilities in strategic areas are able to cater faster to the needs of constituents nearer to them." Mayor Treñas said. "We are also very thankful to private sector partners for providing portions of their properties to host the sites."

The putting up of ICARE centers is part of Mayor Trenas' W.H.E.E.L.S. Development Program under WELFARE whom he laid out during his inauguration as Iloilo City mayor in 2019.
