Iloilo City disaster preparation and response to Typhoon Agaton

The Iloilo City Government prepared itself well when Typhoon Agaton lashed out certain portions of the Visayas last April 2022.

Despite not under any Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal, the city experienced more than the usual rainfall and moderate winds which were both under 24/7 monitoring.

On top of all this was the Iloilo City Operations Center under the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office which led overseeing the whole city during the #AgatonPH.

The Public Safety and Transportation Management personnel monitored the coastal barangays and secured those in the area.

They also conduct river patrol and clean-up (removal of debris which may clog the river) regularly to ensure smooth waterflow especially when there is an upcoming weather disturbance.

The CDRRMO-USAR personnel conducted water level monitoring at the Calubihan Bridge where the Dungon Creek flows.

The City Engineer's Office also conducted a declogging of drainage dystems across the city for faster draining of rainwater across city streets. Shown here is Fuentes-Delgado Streets declogging.

As a preventive measure, the City Health Office distributed boxes of doxycycline for leptospirosis to the 9 district health centers in preparation for flooding-related diseases especially leptospirosis.

And for the unfortunate victims of Typhoon Agaton (9 families who stayed at the Jaro gym), the Iloilo City Government distributed relief goods and services until they were well enough to return to their respective homes.

The city also provided assistance and technical aid to Iloilo province as well as Capiz as these two were greatly affected by flooding brought aboout by Typhoon Agaton.
