Centennial Building inauguration, PAVIA signage ground-breaking highlight 101st "Kaadlawan sang Pavia" celebration

"We are very lucky to be part of these historic events. Pavia has progressed a lot despite the pandemic," opens up Cong. Mike Gorriceta in his speech during the two-part event last Friday, January 14, 2022 that highlighted the week-long celebration of the 101st Kaadlawan sang Pavia.

The former Pavia mayor and now Representative of Iloilo's Second district was among the guests of honor together with Mayor Luigi Gorriceta and Vice Mayor Bibo Gerochi, during the ground breaking for the town's upcoming tourism landmark.

The PAVIA signage, fronting the Santa Monica Parish Church at the Pavia Public Plaza will become an instant attraction in town especially for the social media savvy generation  and is expected to be finished just in time for the town's patronal fiesta this coming May 4, 2022.

Also joining the ceremony was Carabao-Carroza Festival Queen 2021 AJ Panistante and her court.

Showcasing the town's local talents, SubUrban 5001 concluded the groundbreaking ceremony performing to the tune of Jason Derulo's Colors highlighting the lyrics "We still got a long way... But look how far we've come." - a perfect tagline for this progressive town .

The second part of culminating event was inauguration of the Pavia Centennial Building which began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Congressman Mike, Mayor Luigi and Vice Mayor Bibo then continued with the blessing officiated by Rev. Father Leonardo Ellezar,  SSP.

The two-storey building located beside the Pavia Municipal Hall was conceived during last year's 100th year founding anniversary celebration.

The first floor of the building will house the Municipal Social Welfare Development Office and the second level will become a multi-purpose hall.

In his welcome remarks during the inauguration, Mayor Luigi Gorriceta thanked the Pavianhons for their support on his first term as mayor.

He said all these projects and developments are testaments to Pavia's strong economic programs the Gorriceta administration delivered also paying tribute to the late mayor and former congressman Arcadio "Cadio" Gorriceta.

A light show, projected on the building's facade, created a visual spectacle for the townsfolks as they admire the town's newest edifice in a display of colors.

Members of the Pavia Sangguniang Bayan, LGU employees, business sector, local stakeholders and  Pavianhons joined in these two activities of this annual celebration with observance of minimum health protocols.

Pavia used to be a part of the town of Santa Barbara in 1901, was then attached to the City of Iloilo in 1904 and finally included in the then Municipality of Jaro in 1920.

And in 1921, an executive order was released by then US Governor General of the Philippines Francis Burton Harrison, separating Pavia from Jaro and reorganize it into an independent municipality.

In the upcoming years, Kaadlawan sang Pavia every January 8 is expected to be a special non-working holiday in the municipality.

The House of Representatives has already approved on third and final reading Cong. Mike's House Bill No. 7777, or An Act Declaring Jan. 8 of every year a special non-working holiday in the municipality of Pavia, to be known as “Pavia Day”, in commemoration of its foundation anniversary.
